A Formalization of the Theorem of Existence of First-Order Most General Unifiers

چکیده
This work presents a formalization of the theorem of existence of most general unifiers in first-order signatures in the higher-order proof assistant PVS. The distinguishing feature of this formalization is that it remains close to the textbook proofs that are based on proving the correctness of the wellknown Robinson’s first-order unification algorithm. The formalization was applied inside a PVS development for term rewriting systems that provides a complete formalization of the Knuth-Bendix Critical Pair theorem, among other relevant theorems of the theory of rewriting. In addition, the formalization methodology has been proved of practical use in order to verify the correctness of unification algorithms in the style of the original Robinson’s unification algorithm.

Verification of the Completeness of Unification Algorithms à la Robinson
This work presents a general methodology for verification of the completeness of firstorder unification algorithms à la Robinson developed in the higher-order proof assistant PVS. The methodology is based on a previously developed formalization of the theorem of existence of most general unifiers for unifiable terms over first-order signatures. Termination and soundness proofs of any unificatio...
متن کاملNonlinear Fuzzy Volterra Integro-differential Equation of N-th Order: Analytic Solution and Existence and Uniqueness of Solution
This paper focuses on the fuzzy Volterra integro-differential equation of nth order of the second-kind with nonlinear fuzzy kernel and initial values. The derived integral equations are solvable, the solutions of which are unique under certain conditions. The existence and uniqueness of the solutions are investigated in a theorem and an upper boundary is found for solutions. Comparison of the e...
متن کاملOn the existence of nonnegative solutions for a class of fractional boundary value problems
In this paper, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of nonnegative solutions of a boundary value problem for a fractional order differential equation. By applying Kranoselskii`s fixed--point theorem in a cone, first we prove the existence of solutions of an auxiliary BVP formulated by truncating the response function. Then the Arzela--Ascoli theorem is used to take $C^1$ ...
متن کاملOrder-type existence theorem for second order nonlocal problems at resonance
This paper gives an abstract order-type existence theorem for second order nonlocal boundary value problems at resonance and obtain existence criteria for at least two positive solutions, where $f$ is a continuous function. Our results generalize or extend related results in the literature and give a positive answer to the question raised in the literature. An example is given to illustr...
متن کاملVibration of Road Vehicles with Non linear Suspensions
In order to investigate the effects of non-linear springs in vibrating behavior of vehicles, the independent suspension of conventional vehicles could be modeled as a non-linear single degree of freedom system. The equation of motion for the system would be a non-linear third order ordinary differential equation, when considering the elasticity of rubber bushings in joints of shock absorber. It...
